FAL Invest specializes in wealth and investment management for individuals, pension and provident funds, and various other legal entities, including collective investment schemes. We use various platforms for the management of typical wrap funds and segregated investment mandates.

During the mid-1990’s, Sanlam employed various groups of professional financial advisers throughout the country. It was convention at the time to call such professional groups “Financial Advisory Services”, followed by a location description. This was abbreviated to, for instance, FA Pretoria, or FA Stellenbosch. Not surprising then that the group of financial advisers stationed at the Orange Free State head office of Sanlam were called FA Loch Logan, after the small freshwater lake in the beautiful city of Bloemfontein. They became well known by their abbreviated name, FAL, throughout the Karoo and Orange Free State.

Around the turn of the century, all the large life insurers were under considerable pressure to make such groups of financial advisers independent. When FAL became independent, they opted to retain the name FAL because of the popularity of the brand largely among the predominantly Afrikaans speaking community. In the ensuing years a FAL group of companies dramatically expanded the range of financial and related services to meet the needs of existing and potential clients. The range of services and companies include the following:

• FAL Regs Dienste – a duly registered firm of attorneys
• FAL Finansiële Dienste – a duly registered audit firm based in Bloemfontein
• FAL Financial Services (Cape) – a duly registered audit firm situated in Somerset West
• FAL Eiendomme – a property development company
• FAL Makelaars – this is a firm of brokers or financial advisers properly licensed by the FSB
• FAL Agri – a firm of agricultural advisers and consultants
• FAL Invest – an authorized discretionary investment manager properly licenses by the FSB to render both Category I and II financial services.

In the year 2000, Charles Snyman started managing all the assets of the clients of FAL Invest and became a director in 2002.  In this capacity he applied for a category II license for FAL Invest in 2004. In the same year, FSP License 6101 was authorized and issued by the Financial Services Board. On 13 September 2011, FAL Invest received the authorization to manage pension and provident funds.

Charles resigned as director of FAL Invest in late 2004 on insistence of the Efficient Group of which he was a founding shareholder and director at the time. Charles remained the key person on FAL Invest’s FSP license number 6101 and managed all their client’s assets throughout this period. On 1 July 2011 he became a 50% shareholder and a director.

In 2011, FAL Invest opened an office in Somerset West from where our asset management business is run. We shall continue to market our wealth management products to individuals, pension and provident funds, and corporates throughout South Africa.

Petrus Erasmus, the founding director in the 1990’s, resigned as director in early 2015. During the course of 2020, Seven Shores Capital became a 50% shareholder and Jacobus Strauss became a director.
